This church is in the Diocese of Ely.

St Mary's Church has a charming simplicity. It has honey-coloured walls and a thatched roof. Barton Bendish originally had more than one parish church. All Saints' was demolished in the 18th century and St Andrew's serves as the parish church. St Mary's Church has been redundant since 1973. Its Norman west doorway, described by Nikolaus Pevsner as one of the finest in England, came from All Saints' Church. The lack of stained glass, apart from in the upper lights of the east window and in the west window, creates a bright and airy interior. The tower collapsed in the 18th century and the resulting truncated nave is smaller than the chancel. The rustic interior has wonderful pews, one with a date of 1637. Look for the carved communion table from 1633, together with an unusual 14th century painting thought to be of St Catherine.
