St Mary’s, Great Snoring
Open daily dawn to dusk. This large, bright church dates from the C13 with C14 and C15 additions. Of particular note are the rare Royal Coat of Arms of James II with the words ‘whom God has joined together let no man put asunder.’ His arms can also be found at nearby Little Snoring, St Andrew. James II was overthrown that year by William of Orange. The C15 rood screen was cleared of whitewash and the figures of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child and Holy Trinity were revealed.
