Shorter Cycling Route from Rockland St Mary

The area of the Broads National Park surrounding the River Yare just to the southeast of Norwich boasts a high density of churches and flat, quiet back roads which are a haven for cyclists. The routes start at the car park of Rockland Staithe in Rockland St Mary. This route is 6.5 miles long and passes four churches.

From the car park of Rockland Staithe turn left onto The Street. Carry on for around 2.5 miles and then turn right onto Ferry Road. You will come across St Peter’s Church, Carleton St Peter on the right.


Once you’ve left the church, turn right onto Ferry Road and right onto Spong Lane. At the crossroads turn right onto Chapel Lane. At the T junction turn left onto Chapel Road. At the next junction turn right onto Church Road and you will see St Mary’s Church, Ashby St Mary on the right.


Leave St Mary’s Church and turn right. At the next junction turn right and then left onto Green Lane. At the following junction turn right onto Hellington Hill and St John the Baptist’s Church, Hellington will come into view on the left. 

Leave the church and turn left. After around half a mile turn right onto Rectory Lane and St Mary’s Church, Rockland St Mary will be on your left. 


Leave the church and turn left then turn right onto The Street and Rockland Staithe car park will be on the left in just over a mile.
