Cycling Route From Norwich to Hethel

This 16 mile route starts at Chapelfield Gardens in Norwich city centre and passes the churches of Eaton, St Andrew, East Carleton, St Mary, Bracon Ash, St Nicholas and Hethel, All Saints. Before you know it you've left the hustle and bustle of the city behind and find yourself in beautiful countryside. The rider is rewarded with self-service refreshments (and toilet facilities) at the final church, halfway through the route.

From Chapelfield Gardens, cross the road at the crossing by the roundabout and join Convent Road (which becomes Unthank Road) heading southwest. After about a mile, go straight on at the crossroads and continue along Unthank Road until you get to Newmarket Road. Turn right onto the pavement cycle path and then cross over at the first traffic lights, turning right and then bearing left down the hill into Eaton. At the traffic lights turn left onto Church Lane and St Andrew’s Church will be on your right.



Leave the church and turn left and left again at the traffic lights. Once you have crossed the small bridge turn left onto Intwood Road. Continue for just over a mile and you will see All Saints’ Church, Intwood on your right. 



Turn right out of the church and follow the road for 1.7 miles. At the T junction turn right into East Carleton and you will see St Mary’s Church on your right. 



Leave the church and turn right. After the bend turn left onto Wymondham Road. Take the first left onto Water Tower Road and continue for about a mile before turning left onto School Road. St Nicholas’ Church, Bracon Ash will appear on your right. 



Leave the church and turn left. Continue straight on at the junction and All Saints’ Church, Hethel will be on your right. There are self-service refreshments and toilet facilities here. 



Intwood Hall Lodge

Retrace the route back to the crossroads of Eaton Street, Church Lane and Bluebell Road where you turned left towards Eaton, St Andrew. Instead, now turn left onto Bluebell Road and then first right. Continue on Newmarket Road, going straight at the roundabout, for 1.7 miles before turning left onto Brunswick Road. Follow this road around to the right and just as the roads bends left, turn right onto Coach and Horses Row. Turn left down the underpass and you will reach Chapelfield Gardens.
